Traditional freshly cooked meals

The George is well known for its great food and its fine ales. It is also well known for the relaxed atmosphere of its restaurant which is very traditional to the Peak District and Castleton. The emphasis at The George is very much on excellent quality, locally sourced food and an enjoyable experience for our customers.

We pride ourselves on the quality of our home cooked meals. Our menu represents the best food that Castleton has to offer and our specials boards always display the finest examples of our traditional meals.

8oz gammon steak
served with pineapple ring, fried egg, grilled tomato, homemade chips and garden peas.

Sausage and mash
A local 8oz Cumberland ring served in a crispy giant Yorkshire pudding with mashed potato, vegetables of the day.

Fish and chips
A battered haddock fillet served with chips and peas.

Tuna steak, scampi and calamari; Served with chips, garden peas and crispy salad garnish.

Homemade beef lasagne
Served with garlic bread and salad garnish.

A delicious steak and kidney pudding, served with chips, vegetables of the day and our homemade gravy.

Tender chicken breast topped with stir-fried onions, peppers and mushrooms, finished with melted cheese. Served with homemade chips or rice and vegetables of the day.

Sizzling fajitas
A choic of chicken or beef served with stir-fried onions, peppers, mexi rice, tortillas and dips.


Homemade Pies

All our pies are made using the finest meat from our local butcher. Served with chips and vegetables of the day.

Steak and ale
Diced beef steak braised in our best ale with mushrooms, onions and our own gravy. Topped with homemade shortcrust pastry.

Rabbit
Locally caught wild rabbit, slow cooked with root vegetables, herbs and mustard. Topped with homemade shortcrust pastry.

Lamb and black pudding
Diced lamb slowly braised in red wine with black pudding root vegetables and our own gravy. Topped with homemade shortcrust pastry.
